Lathe

MECANUMERIC, manufacturer of CNC industrial machines, has developed a range of CNC milling machines allowing turning on one or more axes, in horizontal or vertical rotation.

Equipped with a spindle allowing high speed rotations, the CNC milling machines allow the manufacturing of complex turned parts. The CNC turning process allows the precision machining of a single part and also the production of mass-produced parts.

How it works

Shape with a lathe is a very common machining process in industry. It allows a material to be machined to the desired shape by chip removal. Numerically controlled industrial lathes make it possible to machine a workpiece by rotating it on itself while a cutting tool forms the desired shape.

The industrial tools of the MECANUMERCI range allow, thanks to a powerful motor, the turning of all types of materials such as wood, composite materials, plastic... The numerical control system allows the transfer of information from the computer design file to the CNC machine which will machine the parts whatever their shape. The production of parts in series can thus be automatic.

The parts to be produced are placed in the centre of the lathe by means of a spindle whose speed of rotation is adapted to the material and the turning to be done. The CNC technology saves time during production while maintaining high precision (work to the millimetre regardless of the diameter of the workpiece).

Advantages

Lathe requires less energy and force than other processes, the tools wear less and therefore have a longer service life. CNC lathes allow easy chip recovery, which can be very useful for toxic or abrasive chips for example.

CNC lathes can nowadays perform multiple and complex operations such as grooving, threading, drilling or boring. Many materials such as wood, aluminium, brass or thermoplastics, for example, can be machined thanks to an automatic turret and a constant feed rate.

The CNC technology allows for automatic programming via CAD/CAM software (Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing). It is easy to use and ensures operator safety.

Applications

The turning process is used in many applications such as :

- Medical, pharmaceutical and chemical industries to produce parts for podiatry
- Education for the training of students in secondary schools, colleges and CFA
